Taking something with a grain of salt (Latin: cum grano salis) that is, with some skepticism and caution. This is the right stance towards photography, ars media where you never know if you are being confronted with reality or a representation of it. This art had, until recently, its only technical foundation in the sensibility to light of silver salts: This was too tempting a pun to let it aside when I was thinking of a title for these pages.
